The Telegraph has published a full league table for A-results in independent schools
Cardiff Sixth Form College has retained its spot at the top of the tree when it comes to A-level performance among independent schools, The Telegraph reports.
The college achieved a 88.5% A-A* rate or equivalent, one of the only schools to surpass 85% when it comes to this measure according to the Independent Schools Council (ISC).
The Telegraph‘s interactive league table allows you to search these results by specific school and compare schools of your choice against one another.
Some independent schools decline to release their results in this fashion so it may be possible that there is a better performing school out there. However, Cardiff Sixth Form College is the best among the roughly 300 schools who entered at least 10 candidates and agreed to have their results published.
Westminster School came second in our table with 88.1% A-A* or equivalent, while North London Collegiate School is third with 84.8%.
This year’s A-level exam results have revealed that 7.4% of pupils from independent schools obtained three A*s.
The percentage of entries getting an A* at A-level is 17.7%, more than twice that of the national average of eight per cent.
At 47%, almost half of A-level entries at ISC schools received either an A* or an A – compared to the national average of 26.4%.
This rate among the 75,470 entries at 325 ISC schools is significantly higher than the national A* attainment of 8.3%.
Barnaby Lenon, chairman of ISC, said: “Ultimately, schools want to provide an education that best meets the needs of each pupil. It is therefore hugely beneficial to students that independent schools are looking at a diverse range of routes for them to take, including vocational.
“Whatever their next steps in life, our Year 13 students and their teachers deserve to be congratulated for another impressive set of exam results – efforts made more noteworthy given their strong performance comes amid major exam reforms.”
