Edge Grove hosts national prep schools table tennis championships

Leading independent prep school in Hertfordshire, Edge Grove, has recently hosted the IAPS national under 13’s and under 11’s table tennis finals for the second year in a row.  Edge Grove pupils fielded a strong team, which yielded success as pupils collected a fantastic four trophies with two of its pupils being named as national champions.

A busy and memorable day, the championships saw 103 players compete from 17 different schools across 13 tables.  The first stage of the competition took the form of mini-leagues before progressing to the knockout and playoff phase.  All children played at least five matches each.

Ben Evans, headmaster at Edge Grove commented: “I’m very proud of our pupils who showed great talent and sportsmanship, the competition produced inspired performances from all of the children that took party and it really was a day to remember.  The icing on the cake for us was not only to win four trophies but to have two of our pupils named as national champions.”

Cordy O’Sullivan started the ball rolling with victory in the under 11’s category for the girls’ section, followed by Shayan Patel’s excellent third place from an entry of 48 under 11 boys. Ryan Wilkins and Ishaan Patel faced very tough semi-finals in the under 13’s competition but excelled in winning 2-1 and set up an ‘all Edge Grove’ final, won narrowly by Ishaan.

Evans continued: “Congratulations to the whole team who played fantastic table tennis and to the helpers, staff, fellow pupils and parents who made it a day so wonderful for everyone.”
